If you’re enclined to spend a couple hours at the movies I suggest you check out A Beautiful Mind. It tells the story of mathematician John F. Nash, Jr. (short autobiography here), widely known for the concepts he developed in game theory. There’s more material at Gametheory.net to get you up to speed.

Travel-related quickies
March 17, 2002We’re back from a few day in Istanbul, Turkey. Since we organized everything in a hurry, traditional local travel agencies such as Hotelplan and Kuoni totally failed to provide us with a decent offer – both from a price and features standpoint. After some searching through my bookmarks, I stumbled upon ebookers.com. Their homepage listed prices for flying to Istanbul that were below anything I’d seen so far. We had to deal with them by phone because departure was less than 72 hours away, but the experience was great nonetheless. We picked up our tickets from their Geneva office minutes before they released a new version of their website which should include even more features – all in all highly recommended. Also useful: checkmytrip.com, which gives you direct access to your schedule if your trip was booked through AMADEUS.
Domain name!
March 4, 2002This website finally has its own domain, at srlanger.com. This development was triggered by Geocities suddenly asking me to pay for having ftp access to my files. I figured I would give a shot at using the services from the good folks at Pair Networks – they came highly recommended by Jerry Pournelle, of Byte fame. UPDATED 2002-03-23 @ 08:35 CET – The website was up-and-running in no time, name registered and all. It took longer for email however – and I keep getting “host unreachable” errors here and there.
